Autumn has officially arrived and I love the idea of a warm, cozy sip that uses locally grown apples with bourbon and smoky mezcal. This one is delicious for a swanky cocktail party but also works just fine in a red solo cup next to a bonfire or on a hayride.

SERVES 1 COCKTAIL
INGREDIENTS
2 ounces rye whiskey
1 ounce mezcal
1 ounce sparkling apple cider
½ ounce maple syrup
1 dash black walnut bitters
Two slices of whole apple
Two sprigs mint
TECHNIQUE
In a mixing glass, stir together whiskey, mezcal, maple syrup, sparkling cider, and bitters. Add one slice of apple and sprig of mint and muddle.
Pour over rocks in a double old-fashioned glass, garnish with remaining apple slice and mint.
